Biography

Todd Andrew McCullough (b. 1975, Oshawa, Ontario) studied Art Fundamentals at Sheridan College and briefly attended the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) with advanced standing in the Drawing and Paint program. He began releasing work in the digital space during the COVID pandemic and enjoyed some minor success. Mostly self taught and an outsider, McCullough now creates bleak works showcasing human decay.

Artist Statement

I try to confront our superficial and self-centered 21st-century society, highlighting the negative impact of vanity, narcissism, and self-help fluff. Through my work I try to urge us to be mindful of our social media habits and prioritize genuine connections over external validation. By addressing these red flags, I attempt to call for a shift towards a more meaningful and authentic society.

Slowly, my works are becoming a fusion of text and image, combining words, phrases, and symbols with bold, expressive brushstrokes. I am at the beginning of a journey where I am abandoning form completely. And yet, at the same time, I contradict that path by seeking more form.

I use a range of materials, including acrylic paints, oil sticks, paint markers and pencil crayons to create works that are rich in texture and layered with meaning.
